Joe and I are slowly making our Fifth Wheel more comfortable, organized, and user-friendly with simple RV upgrades. One of the best things we have found are these OXYLed Motion Sensor Lights. They are cheap, easy to install, and safe (made from an aluminum alloy so they don’t heat up, plus they switch off automatically). Yet they make a big difference to our quality of life. This video shows how easy the lights are to install, and how well they work:
It’s really lovely to be able to find your things easily in your closet or storage compartment, instead of having to search for the flashlight (or, if you’re Joe, getting annoyed and cursing because it’s so dark and he can’t see a thing and WHY didn’t Denali put lights in the darn storage compartment …). Actually, our storage compartment under the Fifth Wheel does have a light. Unfortunately, the solar installers put the solar control box right in front of the light switch, making it basically impossible to reach. So strictly speaking, Joe should be cursing them, not Denali.

These OXYLed motion sensor lights ship with three in a box, for under $15, which is really a great deal. You do have to purchase 2 AAA batteries per light. We have rechargeable batteries, and they last about 3 months before we have to recharge. Each light has 6 ultra-bright LEDs. As you can see in the video, just one light is enough to light up the whole of our under-sink kitchen cupboard, or my bedside closet.
The sticking pad works well – we have never had any of these lights fall down. The sticking pad contains a magnet, which keeps the light firmly in place, until you click it off to replace or recharge the batteries.
To turn on, the lights require two things: it must be dark, and there must be movement. The lights go off after 12 seconds of no motion.
We use these motion sensor lights in our clothes closets, kitchen closets, and of course, as mentioned, the storage compartment. As simple upgrades go, these have been one of the best value-for-money, quick and easy upgrades we have done. We highly recommend them!
