The DOSS Soundbox Bluetooth Speaker is an inexpensive speaker that works well with a Bluetooth connection and also with an audio cable. Light and small, it is ideal for small living spaces, such as RVs. It is a great accessory that can make RV living even better.
Maggie and I listen to a lot of podcasts and music, especially when we are in remote RV parks with limited entertainment options. We decided we needed some kind of speaker to improve the quality of sound coming out of our phones.
Bluetooth and Audio Cable
We wanted to find a speaker that could be used wired or wireless. That’s because, like many RV owners, we have had mixed results with the Bluetooth Jensen system that came with our Denali. Sometimes it works, and sometimes … it just refuses to work. This is frustrating, and sometimes infuriating.
I wanted a speaker with a wired option, because I didn’t want to have yet another gadget that drives me crazy sometimes!
As usual, I did a ton of research and read many reviews. I was tempted to go high-end-and-expensive (also as usual), but luckily, Maggie talked me down. I ended up taking a chance on this very inexpensive DOSS Soundbox Bluetooth Speaker, which also has an option to use with a wire (an audio cable with a 3.5 mm stereo connector).
Sound, Colors and Portability
Well, the DOSS Soundbox Bluetooth Speaker turned out to be perfect for our needs. It is not a boom box, of course; but it is loud enough to be heard throughout our 31-foot fifth wheel. You control the sound on your phone, and also on the speaker itself, using a touch pad on the top. It is small, lightweight, and has a very pleasing sound, with decent bass for its size. We use it every day, and it has not made me angry even once!
Because it’s so lightweight (just over a pound), it’s easy to take along with you to the beach or the river. We often take it with us when we sit outside our RV.

I like that the DOSS speaker is available in a range of colors, as I get bored and depressed with black and beige objects and walls. That’s why I chose the cheerful blue color.

Bluetooth on the DOSS Speaker
We started off using it only with the audio cable, because my blood pressure did not need another Jensen experience. But then one day I started making a video review of the DOSS speaker, and decided I needed to set up the Bluetooth so that I could cover that in the review. I was shocked by how easy it was to set up the Bluetooth connection. And I was even more shocked by how well it works.
We have not used the audio cable since that day. Basically, if I am playing something on my phone and I decide I need better sound, all I have to do is switch on the DOSS speaker. It does the rest itself. Within a few seconds it lights up, makes a chime, and then picks up the sound from my phone. It is designed to automatically pick up a signal from the device last used with it. And it does that, perfectly, every single time. I have not once had to open up my Bluetooth menu on my phone and select the DOSS speaker from my long list of gadgets.
Battery Life on the DOSS Speaker
The speaker is said to have twelve hours of battery life, but it seems like it has more than that. I can go for many days forgetting to charge it in, and it always seems to work. I think there was one occasion when it was out of juice, and I just plugged in the USB cable and we listened to it as it charged.

Charging is done with a generic micro USB cable. I love that it is generic – it drives me crazy when my gadgets have proprietary cables, and then I lose the cable, and have to find a way to get a replacement. I have literally dozens of generic USB cables lying around, so I always have something handy to charge this speaker.
Controls on the DOSS Soundbox Speaker
The touch controls on the top of the DOSS speaker enable you to pause, restart, skip forward or backward, adjust volume, and even take phone calls. This is especially handy when you can’t remember where you left your phone! Or if you just want to briefly pause your podcast so you can make a comment. Of course, if you take a phone call, you are effectively on a speaker phone.
Bottom Line
This is an ideal speaker for a small living space, such as an RV. At the budget price, you really can’t go wrong with this DOSS Soundbox Bluetooth speaker. But don’t just take my word for it: you can read hundreds of short reviews here.
